Ballet SUNMI was founded in 2021, driven by a call to encourage students' connection to their mind, heart and body using dance in a codified structure focused on alignment, core and coordination. The Creative Core and Foundations curricula was developed by Sun-Mi Cho, Founder and Director, who after 30 years of professional dance experience and 20 years of teaching experience, sought to create a safe space for developing the overall dance artist, where mentorship, dedication and acknowledging emotions via the movement vocabulary of dance are core principles. The studio's approach to learning is fostering long-game tenacity in an environment where there is no failing, only "multiple opportunities to attempt" with a teacher and community walking alongside each student. Ballet SUNMI is a minority, woman led small business located in Philadelphia's Chinatown district at the Asian Arts Initiative, and offers classes for ages 2 through Adult and pre-professional coaching. In Korean, "Sun" means virtue and "Mi" means beauty, Ballet SUNMI exists to cultivate the virtue and beauty within each individual through creating a community connected by dance arts.
